| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description If your computer has Windows and a CD-ROM drive, CD Estimator puts at your fingertips 85,000 construction costs for new construction, home improvement, remodeling, renovation & insurance repair, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and painting. You'll also have the National Estimator program - a stand-alone estimating program for Windows that Remodeling magazine called a "computer wiz." Quarterly cost updates are available at no charge on the Internet. To help you create professional-looking estimates, the disk includes over 40 construction estimating and bidding forms in a format that's perfect for nearly any word processing or spreadsheet program for Windows. And to top it off, a 70-minute interactive video teaches you how to use this CD-ROM to estimate construction costs.

| Customer Reviews: Very irritating to use. October 10, 2005 Adam Westphal (Olympia, WA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I installed the program quickly and easily. I played with it briefly after installing and was looking foward to creating my first estimate on a flight from Seattle to Phoenix. Much to my displeasure the program requires the install CD to be in the drive everytime you try to open a costbook. And I didn't bring the CD with me (who does?). Nowhere in the 46 page guide does it tell you that you need to have the install CD in all the time. Can you imagine if every Software Company did this? You would have to carry dozens of CDs around in your laptop case.
I was assuming that this was a bug but Richard (DICK) at Tech Support sent me this note...
>This is expected behavior of the CD Estimator program. Unless the CD is
>
>in the CD-Rom drive prior to starting the program, you'll be asked to insert the CD...
>
>This is prevent unauthorized distribution of the CD-Rom.....
>
>In essence, the CD-Rom 'acts' like the ignition key on your truck. No Key, No Ignition...
When I replied to him that I would be returning the product to Amazon.com because of this "feature" his reply was
So be it....
I bought the program to help estimate my budget while being my own general contractor to build a house, however this program is more pointed to the professional contractor who knows all the steps and pieces that go into a comprehensive estimate.
